The LOWNOISER project, spearheaded by Maritime CleanTech and its 15 partners, aims to tackle the often-overlooked issue of underwater noise pollution caused by maritime traffic.
Minister Bjelland Eriksen expressed his satisfaction with the EU’s support, highlighting Norway’s role as a global leader in green shipping solutions.
“Norway is proud to be a leading player in the development of green solutions for the shipping industry. Cooperation with the EU is important in this regard, and the support they provide for Norwegian climate and environmental projects creates good market opportunities for Norwegian companies while recognizing the expertise of the Norwegian maritime industry,” said Bjelland Eriksen.
Reinforces Commitment to Drive Change
Underwater noise from shipping presents a serious threat to marine ecosystems, disrupting the communication, navigation, and reproduction of vital marine species. To address this, the LOWNOISER project will focus on developing cutting-edge noise reduction technologies, establishing regulatory standards, and advancing industry practices to safeguard marine habitats.
With this financial backing and international collaboration, the LOWNOISER project is set to drive meaningful progress in reducing the environmental impact of maritime transport, reinforcing Norway’s commitment to sustainable innovation in the sector.
